This is Not a Haiku
A Poem That Wouldn't Fit
Sun between branches
Taste of morning coffee
Breathe deep the life of this day
I recently rediscovered this piece that I wrote almost 15 years ago now. At the time I thought it close enough to a haiku that it could be reworked into that structure, but the many pages of edits and versions that followed only served to degrade what it wanted to be and what it wanted to say. I still remember the morning I wrote it, walking through a tiny ravine near our apartment in the city, coffee mug in hand like it was my own front yard, the trees and I recharging our souls together in the morning sun.
